The Order of the Teaspoon’s work is based on the motto: A voice for diversity. We work to prevent people from being discriminated because of political or religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
The foundation is the result of a cooperation between Amos Oz’, Swedish publisher Wahlström & Widstrand and the quality magazine Vi (founded in 1913 and owned by the Swedish cooperative movement). The magazine wrote about the idea of the order, published a long interview with Amos Oz and distributed, free of charge, the Swedish translation of “How to Cure a Fanatic” to all its 40 000 subscribers.
Our values are based on the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The Order of the Teaspoon’s values are based on the conviction that all people have equal value and equal rights, that children have special rights and that States have specific obligations to ensure and protect these rights.
